April Message from the GM

The beautiful month of April is now here. The start of spring is so nice. The green yards and flowers and trees blooming will be a welcome sight to our community. I wish everyone a Happy Easter.

The sign up period for connection to the centralized sewer is now over. I’m so thankful that so many property owners attended our sewer meetings. A total of 817 properties signed up: 803 existing homes, 8 lots that are planning on building this year, and 6 HAWL common properties. I also would like to thank the Lake Quality Committee for preparing the “HAWL Sewer Information Questions and Answers” document. Having this information available in one source was instrumental in helping our property owners make an informed decision. This composition is still available on our website (www.hawlms.com) under the Bulletin section or you may pick up a copy from our office. As previously stated, the installation is a long project and will be ongoing into the next year. When the actual work begins in your area, the project manager from Dungan Engineers will pre-notify residents within a specific street section via their blackboard mass notification system. This system allows them to send automated phone calls to a pin-pointed area, highlighted on an internet based mapping system. The ongoing message will give the dates when work is scheduled for the area, and will give call-back instructions for people who may not be home during regular working hours. The project manager will also attempt to make personal contact (knock on the door) and utilize door hangers when no one is at home. The door hangers will include the project manager’s call back information. Over the last two months prep work has begun and this month we should see pipes going into the ground. I will keep you informed as this project develops.

Our Southgate hours seem to be working well; approximately 350-400 cars a day are using this entrance/exit. As part of the court order and agreement with the City of Picayune, we are to construct a guardhouse at this entrance. As we make progress with the new Southgate guardhouse, it is necessary to address safety issues as well as the increased traffic flow. Woodlawn Drive would become a “no-thru” street with posts installed at the end of Woodlawn by Southgate. These posts could be removed, if needed, for emergency exit from Woodlawn. The PRC school bus would be directed to pick-up/drop off at the corner of Woodlawn/East Lakeshore Drive and Southgate/East Lakeshore Drive. This will not start until the next school year since construction is not scheduled until August 2010. Again, as stated previously in other formats, ONLY property owners with valid decals will be allowed to enter this gate. A separate mailing was sent last month to all the property owners who reside on Woodlawn/Southgate Drive.

This month on April 24th, we will hold our annual Fishing Rodeo. Last November, our Lake Quality Committee invited Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks to determine the present condition of the fishery in our lake. Several fish species were collected during sampling and included largemouth bass, bluegill,   redear, warmouth crappie (both black and white species), chain pickerel, and lake chubsucker. Their main finding was there was an overabundance of these fish. Therefore, the awards for this year’s Fishing Rodeo will be based upon the total weight of fish caught in each category. “Don’t throw anything back.” Catching the fish will help our fish population. For additional details of the rodeo, please see page 1 of this newsletter.

I again thank you for your patience and your consideration during our time of growth. And as always, if you have any questions or concerns, please give me a call at the office.
