Community News April 2008

I hope everyone had an enjoyable Easter and Spring break…and made the most of the time off by spending it with family and friends. It is amazing how quickly the year is passing. Already, the trees are putting out the new buds and everything is “greening up”. Time to get busy with all that spring cleaning and sprucing up…and Hide-A-Way is no exception to that. Our most recent “sprucing” includes the following improvements.

Last month, contracts were signed for both of our capital improvement projects: the bridge maintenance project with Pearl River Paving for $25,405.00 and for our new 40’ x 80’ metal building for our maintenance department with Ace Metal Building and Components for $49,407.88. Both projects should be completed by next month. I will keep you informed on our progress.
Another capital improvement last month was the purchase of forty new lounge chairs and eight additional umbrellas for $2,120.29. We now have a total of 50 lounge chairs, 40 regular chairs, and 18 umbrellas. The biggest complaint last year was regarding the lack of seating area by the pool. I believe this purchase will make for a more enjoyable season for everyone. Also please remember that you are allowed to bring your own chair and/or umbrella. I hope everyone will make plans to come over and enjoy our pool.
Some of the other projects we have done for the beautification of HAWL have been the planting of trees. With the help of our Social Committee, Ms. Kathy Stockstill and our maintenance department planted six crepe myrtles and two magnolias at the west playground. These trees were purchased from the monies generated at the Kid’s Day Event last summer and will make that area more comfortable for the children by providing shade during those hot summer months and delightful flowers for all to appreciate. Also, in preparation for our new wall, which will be built this fall in conjunction with our newest neighbors, Beau Jardin, the plants from around the Highway 11 wall were moved.   With the guidance of the HAWL Garden Club, those shrubs were transplanted at the three-way stop at Hide-A-Way Lane and East Lakeshore Drive. Thank you to all who were involved in this endeavor…your hard work paid off. Both areas look great.
On Saturday, March 15, 2008, a Neighborhood Watch meeting was held in the lodge. I am thankful to our Security Committee and many other property owners who attended this meeting. This was an introductory meeting to go over what you should know and what is needed to start a Neighborhood Watch Program. I hope everyone will hear more about a Neighborhood Watch Program here in the upcoming weeks, but let’s start now by getting to know our neighbors. Talk with them - exchange phone numbers - this will help you help each other be prepared in case of any type of emergency (criminal or otherwise) in your community. This “knowing your neighbor” is the nucleus of Neighborhood Watch which will help our Security and Pearl River County Sheriff’s Office prevent wrong-doing in our community.
Since many of you will be taking vacations in the upcoming months, remember that our Security offers the service of vacation checks on your home and property when you are out of town. Prior to going out of town, simply fill out one of the vacation check-list forms, drop it off at the front gate and security will keep a watch on your home in your absence.
And as always, if you have any questions or concerns, please give me a call at the office.
