COMMUNITY NEWS
It is with the very warmest wishes for the happiest of holiday seasons that I, along with my office staff, say “Merry Christmas”. May you and yours be blessed by a joyous heart, good friends, and a warm hearth.
On October 26, 2007, the results of the HAWL Centralized sewer collection system installation proposal poll to pursue more information and then proceed to a final vote were tabulated, with the following results from 1,231 accounts in our community.
Total Polls Received 803 65.23%
“Yes” Polls Received 339 42.22%
“No” Polls Received 457 56.91%
Voided Polls* 7 00.87%
(*Voided due to non-compliance with the guidelines i.e. poll received after due date, no signature, etc.)
Please note that the sewer poll results will be kept in the office as community record and are available to be reviewed by any property owner by appointment only. As stated by our Board of Directors the majority of property owners would determine the next step HAWL would take. With the results of this poll everything involved in HAWL pursuing more information has STOPPED. Many property owners have stated that they know a centralized sewer system is inevitable; however, the initial cost is their main reason for a negative response. I commend the property owners who came to the meetings and listened with an open mind. I also commend the Board of HAWL for looking at the future and what is in the best interest of our community. I’m sure this subject will “bubble up” again so I just hope the decision made was the right one.
Last month, our capital improvement expenditure budget for 2008 was approved for $229,500. The projects for this year include the following:
- Bridge improvements underneath and to clear debris from spillway and valve to the bridge;
- Build a maintenance equipment building to protect HAWL assets;
- Water system tank inspections;
- Dam inspection;
- Maintenance equipment
- Perimeter fencing;
- Technology upgrades at the Lodge and for Security;
- Club facilities renovations.
On October 2, 2007, Dungan Engineering inspected our bridge at a cost of $950. It was determined that some preventative maintenance needs to be done. The remaining concrete spillway located under the bridge must be removed, the sides then slopped, covered with filter fabric and rip rap (rocks) to stop any future washouts. Additionally, all debris from the spillway to the bridge and from the lake valve to the bridge must be removed. We are working now to have debris removed this month. We are in the process of drawing up specs for the work needed underneath with Dungan Engineering which we will then send out for bid.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please give me a call at the office.
