It is hard to believe that this year has come and gone with the holiday season upon us. I, along with my staff, would like to tell everyone “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year”. Enjoy a safe holiday season with your family, friends and neighbors. Our community has a great year with capital improvements across the area. I am looking forward to finishing some (especially sewer) and continuing to do more in the coming year.
This month, our maintenance department will begin an interior renovation project at the West Marina restrooms. This should be completed next month.
Bids went out last month and will be opened on December 19th for the repaving project of approximately two miles of roads in the first quarter of next year. I will go over more details once the bids are received and reviewed.
New office hours will begin this month. The office will only be open on Saturdays from May through September. This is our peak season for the pool and boating. By closing on Saturdays during the “off” season, we will save some staff payroll and of course, the utilities used while open.
Also this month, the restaurant will no longer be open on Wednesdays. This has been a very slow day for usage and by closing this day, we will be able to save/control costs. However, Wednesdays will still be available for any group of forty or more; please make contact with us a month or so in advance so we can make arrangements to be open for you. Also, thanks to so many of you for taking the time to send us feedback on the restaurant questionnaire. This month, we will be compiling the results for review. Please sign up for the weekly Waters Edge newsletters to get the latest news. To register, go to the Hide-A-Way website at www.hawlms.com.
The last few months, our Board of Directors has invited some important representatives for Hide-A-Way and for our county to the monthly board meetings. Those individuals include Sandy Kane Smith, County Supervisor; David Allison, Pearl River County Sherriff; and last month, Angela Burks Hill, the newly elected state senator for our district. This gave us a very good opportunity for “Q & A”, and provided the chance to garner attention for Hide-A-Way as our unique status dictates. I thank the Hide-A-Way Board of Directors for doing this. However, with that being said, there has been a disappointingly low attendance at these monthly meetings, even with the presentation of people you elect to help serve our area. Please do not pass up the opportunity to meet and greet as well as influence those who are making decisions which impact us all.
This month, Pearl River County Utility Authority Board President, Steve Lawler and Head Engineer, Brooks Wallace from Dungan Engineering are attending the December 14th board meeting at 6:30 p.m. These are the folks in charge of the sewer installation across our community. This has been a long installation process and will be finished within the next few months. We have worked very hard to get most complaints resolved for you by working with Dungan Engineering and the contractor. There are some issues, such as the ditches, which cannot be resolved until the project is completed. But again, please understand that Hide-A-Way is not in charge of this endeavor. The people who are, however, will be attending our Board meeting this month so if you have questions or any concerns, please attend this meeting or contact Dungan Engineers at (601) 799-1037.
As we near the completion of the major improvements we have been working on for many months, let me again express my gratitude for your tolerance. My door is open to you and your suggestions and as always, if you have any questions or concerns, please give me a call at the office.
