COMMUNITY NEWS

HAPPY NEW YEAR! I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. The community looked great throughout the holiday season with so many of you showing off your Christmas decorations. It is hard to believe that a new year is here. We accomplished many improvements last year, and I’m looking forward to another great year in 2008.

Last month, Rodney Roche Construction completed the removal of all debris from the spillway and lake valve to the bridge for a total cost of $9,000.00. This was a great preventative maintenance project which will help our bridge and spillway/dam handle excess rain water. With this project we also have an access to the area for our maintenance department to remove any further debris/blockages. Additionally, we have contracted with Dungan Engineering, P.A., Consulting Engineers to provide services, specifications, bidding of project and the follow through of the preventative maintenance of the bridge project, for the fee of $6,000.00. As stated last month, it was determined that the remaining concrete spillway located under the bridge must be removed, the sides slopped, covered with filter fabric and rip rap (rocks) added to stop any future washouts. Bids will go out this month. This work is very important to protect our bridge and hopefully, will be completed while the lake is down. I will keep you informed of our progress.

The lake lowering will begin on January 2, 2008. Remember that a building permit is required for any new docks, bulkheads, or structural changes to an existing dock or bulkhead. The valve will be closed no later than February 29, 2008 pending bridge project completion.

The CPI index for 2008 will be $1.00, based upon the Social Security Administration CPI. This operational fee increase of $1.00 began with this month’s statements.

Unfortunately, you need to be aware that we are having throughout the community some vandalism and theft. Trash cans have been destroyed, Christmas decorations as well as other yard art stolen or moved around, and items taken from vehicles. The coke machine at the lodge was destroyed and glass bottles were broken all over the pavilion at the lodge. We did have some property owners witness some of these incidents; PRC Sherriff Office was contacted and we are pressing charges.  Even so, understand that this problem still exists. Everyone needs to be aware of and report anything that looks suspicious. I have added more patrol but the help of the entire community is needed to stop such things from occurring. If you call security or me, the information you can provide is greatly needed to legally prosecute the individual(s) doing this type of crime. Fines within HAWL are one thing, but the Law is fully aware of these actions and will prosecute to the fullest extent allowed. We, as a community, will not tolerate this behavior. Please take an active role and watch out for your neighbors and your community. Identification of informants is kept strictly confidential and will not be disclosed to anyone so don’t let this deter you from doing your part in getting rid of this activity and the individual(s) taking part in it. Thank you for helping.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please give me a call at the office.
