GM Message JUNE 07

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer.  The level of activity at the Lodge has certainly picked up with the pool opening and the kids getting out of school.  Just a reminder, with summer comes the hurricane season - it has now officially started.  Please review THE HIDE-A-WAY COMMUNITY HURRICANE EMERGENCY PLAN for information on how to be best prepared.  This information is incorporated in your property owners’ blue folder or copies are available in the office.

Last month, FEMA marked over 300 standing dead trees which were eligible for removal.  The tree cutters have begun to remove the trees.  Please use caution and patience while the workers are on our roadways.  This project of FEMA is a great savings to property owners and to the Club’s reserved areas as well and we are truly grateful.  Dungan Engineering has done a great job with FEMA and helping HAWL.

Our Building Codes were updated last month with the help of our Architectual Committee.  The current building codes were not specific on some procedures.  In addition, new requirements by the Pearl River County Building Codes needed to be incorporated into our building code.  Copies are available in the office or on our website www.hawlms.com.  This project was completed with a lot of hard work and time from Committee Chairman Don Rapp, Richard Carlstom, Norman Weinstein, Charlie Hudson, Thomas Davis, Board of Director Representative Dominick Verona and my office, Laura Miller and Mark Leleck.  I thank you all.

As stated last month, our big capital improvement for this year is repaving two miles of roads and the lodge parking lot.  Request for bids were sent out on April 11th.  The bids were opened on May 16th.

Huey Stockstill, Inc., $  214,200.00

Boh Bros.  Construction, $  212,965.00

Warren Paving, Inc. Declined to Bid

Barriere Construction Co. LLC Declined to Bid

This will be brought to our Board of Directors this month for a decision.  The two miles of roads include the following streets:

Fairwood Circle East Lakeshore Drive – 1107 Block to 1134 Block

Millbrook Lane East Lakeshore Drive – 1200 Block to 1300 Block

Brookdale Lane East Lakeshore Drive – 1417 Block to 1506 Block

Hide-A-Way Lane – 1605 Block to 1817 Block

West Lakeshore Drive – 300 Block to 530 Block

I encourage everyone to come by the lodge and see the new enhancements our Maintenance Department has been making.  They have been busy painting and staining the lodge, deck and pool house.  Plants have been added and reinforcements were made to the structure of the lodge upper deck.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please give me a call at the office.
