Message from the General Manager
February 2011

The 2011 New Year was kicked off in style at Waters Edge with a New Year’s Eve dinner and a dance with the live band, Solid Gold. Over 140 attended either the dinner or the dance...and many enjoyed both. It is my sincere desire that everyone enjoys a healthy and prosperous new year. Your community continues to prosper with a number of projects, some new and others ongoing, and they are as follows.

The lake valve was opened on January 3rd and will close February 28th. During this time, we will conduct our inspection of the dam and the spillway areas.

Last month, while the restaurant was closed for two weeks, a new, five-ton air conditioner system was installed in the kitchen area. This work was conducted by White Dove Heating. The total cost of this capital improvement was $5,652.38 and was paid from the capital reserve funds. The old unit was one of the originals from forty-plus years ago and was costly to maintain because of necessary repairs. The new unit provides a big improvement on cooling/heating with the additional benefit of being energy efficient. There are four more original units which are also starting to have issues; it is our plan to change those out as the budget allows.

Thank you to all who have promptly returned your Property Information Reports. The response has been good.  However, we encourage everyone who has not returned their signed report — even if you do not have revisions — to get them in since it will be required before we can update/verify your information in our database.  You will not be able to purchase your new “automatic tag with decal” until this verification has taken place.

Beginning this month on February 7th, the “automatic tag with decal” will be available for purchase at the HAWL office. Please note that there will be a transition period before we go live with the automatic gate.  Effective April 4th, old expired decals and the (discontinued) gate cards will no longer be allowed; those individuals must use the inside “visitor” lane, stop at the guard house and have their driver’s license scanned for entry. These individuals will only be allowed in if that resident’s name is in the data base. I suggest that property owners purchase the automatic tag with decal for themselves and for their dependents. This will expedite entry into the community.  The automatic tags are good for approximately five to seven years. This lifetime expectancy would not be attained if the windshield is replaced since the removal of tag from window will destroy the auto tag and is therefore, not transferable to a new vehicle.  Please see page 4 of this Echoes for details on the new gate entry procedures.

Effective March 7th, the inside “visitor lane” must have the driver’s license scanned into the access control system for entry.  The individual should be in the Access Control System database as a resident, authorized visitor, or HAWL approved registered entry (employee, realtor, lawn service, contractor) to be allowed entry.  If that individual is not in the database, then  entry will not be granted.  As in the past, the property owner will still call the guard gate to log in a visitor from a phone that is registered in the database.  The E-Advance System, which allows property owners to log in their visitors online through our web-site, is still in the works but not available at this time.  Next month, property owners should received a separate mailing with more information on this system as soon as all is completed.

Thank you again for your patience. I am aware that the implementation of these changes, while tremendous improvements once completed, are, at this stage, somewhat inconvenient. Changes in procedure, as well as the physical entry into the community, will take time in which to become accustomed. Please continue to remember that these “growing pains” are temporary and once the transition is completed, will provide the security that you, as a property owner in a gated community, expect.

...and as always, if you have any questions or concerns, please give me a call at the office.
