May’s weather was so nice! I am sure June will bring on those hot days of summer we have all been expecting. The level of activity has certainly picked up with the pool opening and boaters out enjoying the lake. It is so nice to see all of our families taking advantage of the amenities (parks, beach, lake, pool, restaurant, etc.) across the community for all their summertime endeavors. I have listed the boat and pool rules in this edition of Echoes. Please review page 10 and 11 so everyone can enjoy while having a safe time.
The pool is ready with lifeguards...and thirty new chaise lounge chairs - we purchased them last month for a total capital expenditure of $1,630. This gives us a total of fifty chaise lounge chairs from which you can soak up those summer rays. To verify your residential status (your name must be in HAWL membership), identification (drivers license or HAWL credit card) will be required for entry.
Last month, our maintenance department restriped the Lodge parking lot and it looks great. Additional handicap parking spaces were made so that we now have nine in the top parking area. Please remember we also have three handicap parking spots on the lower level. To access that lower area, take the black top road from the parking lot behind and around beside the tennis courts.
An emergency situation occurred last month at the back spillway road. A washout was discovered along the side of the culvert going into the lake. This has occurred before but due to this safety issue, Dungan Engineering was contacted and their recommendation was a concrete toe wall to be installed under the culvert and on both sides where the water enters the culvert. Bids were received and the Board awarded the project to Davis Construction. They will build the toe wall a total of fifty feet in length with twenty-five of that length six foot deep under the culvert with the remaining sides four feet deep. The project’s estimated cost is $9,272 and should be completed this month. Once done, the road will be patched.
With summer’s arrival, those bad words “Hurricane Season” come to mind. It is in preparation for this season that Hide-A-Way Lake has entered into a contract with G.R.A.M. Development for the clearing of our community roadways in the event of any natural disaster. It is to include the elimination of any obstruction in either lane. Debris will be pushed to the side of our roadways and will be cut no longer than seven foot in length. Before any hurricane/storm in which this community is in the projected path, the contractor will stage equipment in the community. This contract is only for service if needed, which of course, we all hope will be a service that goes unused.
Mark your calendar, at the July 13th HAWL Board of Directors meeting at 6:30 pm we are inviting all the people who are running for election in our area of Pearl River County i.e. supervisor, sheriff, tax assessor, etc. to assist you in making an informed choice in this year’s elections.
