GM September 2008 Message

It’s hard to believe that September is here and summer is coming to an end. I hope all will have a safe holiday weekend this Labor Day; and continue to use your amenities of the pool, lake, and beach to cool off on those remaining hot days. Soon enough we will be talking fall.

I would like to remind everyone of Covenant #22 which states:

The declared intent of this section is to prohibit commercial rental of any kind of any residence in the Hide-A-Way Lake subdivision.
A lot owner can only declare one (1) residence as an intended residence. That intended residence shall be exempt from all provisions in Section 22.
Rental of any residence other than the declared intended residence is prohibited.

This covenant has always been there and stops commercial rental from happening in our community. The only way you may rent is if you only own one home in HAWL. Make sure you check with HAWL office as all renters must be approved by the office.

Mississippi Department of Transportation “MDOT” started last month fencing along Interstate-59. We have a lot of property which borders the interstate. The fence is 5 foot high and consists of field fence and barbed wire. This fencing-in along that part of our community is a welcome project. One for which many property owners have been waiting for quite some time. This project should be completed in the next couple of months.

Last month, HAWL made a capital purchase of a new maintenance truck from Dub Herring Ford for $14,699.00. This truck, a 2008 Ford Ranger, will be replacing the 1993 F-150 which had become costly to continuously have repairs done. This new truck will also be a gas saver since it is a 4-cylinder. We should see a reduction on our monthly fuel expense.

Also, last month HAWL paid the remaining balance of $20,113.73 off on the backhoe that was financed back in 2006. This saves HAWL the monthly interest charge on the remaining twenty-seven (27) payments of the original forty-eight (48) months payment plan.

Pool season is coming to an end…we will continue having the pool open Tuesday – Friday 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. for “adults only” and Saturday – Sunday 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. with lifeguards. This schedule continues, of course, only if weather permits and
depending on usage.

Our pool coordinator for the past two years has been Donna Pertuit-Penton. Donna has been a property owner for many years and although she is a full-time nurse, she has donated many hours writing schedules and taking phone calls from the pool staff. Due to her time limitations and the increasing need for someone to be more “hands-on”, Donna is working with us to find someone who could oversee the pool for next year. We need someone who could spend 30-40 hours a week at the pool from Memorial Day to Labor Day. If you are interested or know of someone who is, please give me a call. In talking with Donna and other property
owners, we have some great young lifeguards, but sometimes we need someone out there who is better able to project authority and give guidance. I am planning now for next year to ensure that this amenity is even better in the future.

In August, the air conditioning system for the new maintenance department’s office was installed by Artic Refrigeration at a cost of $3,531.00. This capital project is now complete for our maintenance department. The new building has been named:
AUSTON “LEO” MILLS
HIDE-A-WAY LAKE
MAINTENANCE SHOP

This is to honor Mr. Leo’s 39 years of dedicated service to our community. This month, Mr. Leo officially retires and he will be missed.   I would like to thank Mr. Leo for helping me plan for his departure and train the new maintenance supervisor and existing staff for, what I hope to be, a smooth transition.

As always, I thank you for your help and input. Please call me if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions. I am here to help you.
