July GM Message

July will begin with a big fireworks celebration on the 4th.  Thanks to the many property owners that donated.  We collected approximately $5,000.  This show comes only from money donated by the property owners.  I hope everyone has a safe and fun time with all of the events we have scheduled.

With that being said, I would like to remind everyone to take care of our common areas (pool, lodge, beach, parks, marinas, and our roadways).  I have received numerous complaints of these areas being damaged or destroyed by vandalism and/or littering.  Parents:  Please monitor your teenager’s whereabouts and actions.  Support our curfews for they will be enforced.   Inappropriate language and behavior has also been reported in these areas.  Please be considerate of families with young children who wish to enjoy our facilities as well.  HAWL has zero tolerance for destructive or offensive actions and will take action in the form of administrative fines.  We will prosecute if necessary to protect our neighborhood and provide a safe environment for all.  If you see something wrong or suspicious, contact our Security Department at 601-798-1247 immediately.  I want everyone to enjoy our community but it will take your cooperation to handle these issues.  Thank you for your anticipated help.

Last month, we finally finished our fence project from last year by North Hill.  Added to this project were a 16’ foot gate and a rock road around the 1200 block of Hide-A-Way Lane.  This will be used as an entrance to maintain our 30’ foot easement and as an emergency outlet for our west side property owners to exit through North Hill if ever needed.

As stated in the last three newsletters, we have been working very hard on our capital expenditure of repaving approximately seven miles of roads.  The contract was signed this past month with Huey Stockstill, Inc.  The project, which is scheduled to be competed within three weeks from the start date, will begin between August 14, 2006 and September 5, 2006.  The repaving will definitely improve our community.  To see a list of the streets, please reference last month’s article.  The total cost of the repaving roads project is $461,714.80, which is approximately $66,000 per mile.  Compared to $47,000 per mile from our last repaving project two years ago, this amounts to a 43% increase.  This shows how much costs have escalated. Again, I commend our board for helping to make enhancements like this happen.

In preparation for the road work, HAWL recently installed 19 culverts.  Settlement time has been factored in before the repaving actually begins.  Stripping bids for the newly repaved main roads will go out this month.

BellSouth Telephone Company has completed installing the underground fiber optic cables.  They continue to replace the telephone lines to homes and remove old existing phone wires from the utility poles.  This project is slated to be completed by the end of this month.

A three year service agreement was signed with Kossen Equipment for the new generator system at well #3.  In addition to bi-annual inspections by Kossen, this agreement places HAWL on their priority list in the event of a crisis, such as the past Hurricane Katrina disaster.  HAWL staff also conducts weekly inspections on the generator.

As always, I thank you for your help and input.  Please call me if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions.  I am here to help you.
