July 07 GM Message

Happy 4th of July!  I hope everyone is having a super summer – safe travel, good health and lots of fun.

Our big capital improvement of repaving two miles of road and the Lodge parking lot was awarded last month to Huey Stockstill, Inc. for $214,200.00.  This project should start in July-August time frame.  (Roads were listed last month.)   Bid invitations for striping of main roads and parking lot were sent to Gulf Coast Seal Coating, Robbie Robinson, Inc., Traffic Control Products, J.C. McCool, and A-1 Asplath.  This will be awarded next month and will follow new repaving.  Culverts were purchased from Central Pipe Supply Inc. at a cost of $2,366.80 and will be installed prior to the road repaving.

Last month, we purchased an additional vehicle for the Security Department fleet for $16,295.50 (total price) from Toyota of Slidell.  With the increase in patrol adding to the already high mileage on the other trucks, this purchase will elevate the value of our security and assist in their meeting our community’s needs.

The following insurance policies were renewed for the 2007-2008 time period:

Workers Comp   $7,305.00

Equipment  $3,244.50

Property Insurance  $37,755.43

Progressive Automobile   $2,414.00

Directors and Officers  $  $2,822.00

For a total of $54,443.93

Dungan Engineering has completed the preliminary engineering report for the proposed low pressure sewer system in HAWL.  Community meetings will be held on August 8th and August 25th.   To discuss next steps with Dungan

Engineering and with the Pearl River County Utility Authority, please attend one of these meeting.  Below is a table showing the cost estimate from our report.  Most individuals’ initial response is that they will not endorse anything that means money needs to come out of their pockets.  However, we need to keep in mind that although these amounts may presently seem high, the amount will actually increase in the future should we elect to postpone this decision by not accepting this package now.

 *** Initial Costs (Choice one)

Lots with Houses (Lines & Pump)   $9,000

 Lots Only (Lines Only)  $4,000

*** Yearly Assessment on taxes for 20 Years (Choice Two)

 Lots with Houses  $750

Lots Only  $350

*** Estimated Monthly Sewer Bill  $20

The rental of property within our community is allowed only as provided for by our Covenant #22, which states:

The declared intent of this section is to prohibit commercial rental of any kind of any residence in the

Hide-A-Way Lake subdivision.

A. A lot owner can only declare one (1) residence as an intended residence.  That intended residence shall be exempt from all provisions in Section 22.

B. Rental of any residence other than the declared intended residence is prohibited.

Bottom line:  If you own only one home in HAWL, you may rent it out.  Anything else is considered commercial rental which is prohibited.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please give me a call at the office.
