November 2007

This is the season of thankfulness…at least it is a time when most of us will stop and do what we should be doing all year round and say “thanks” for the many blessing we have received over the past year. It is my wishes for you and yours to have a wonderful Thanksgiving while taking a few minutes to count those many blessing. I know I will.

We have much to be thankful for as a community. Recapping our big capital improvements for this year: the repaving of the lodge parking lot, the paving of the road to the lower level of the lodge and a new parking pad there; the paving/repaving of two miles of roads in the community; and the striping of those areas were completed last month. Payments to Huey Stockstill, Inc. for the repaving were $206,277.30 (this was $7,922.70 under budget) and $12,185.20 to Robbie Robinson, Inc. for the striping. This is a total capital improvement expenditure of $218,462.50.

With this year’s lodge repaving of the parking lot, we added more handicap parking for a total of seven spots with one being van accessible on main level. The lower level of the lodge now has a paved road with three additional handicap spots as well. To have this side door opened during normal business hours, you will find a door bell has been installed next to the door which rings in the office or you may choose to go to the regular entrance door (pool side). We hope that this will be an added convenience for those individual needing assistance.

The results of the sewer poll which was conducted last month are not known at the time of the printing for this issue of Echoes. However, the outcome will be posted on the front board by the gate and on the website after the count has been tallied. To reiterate, the decision to continue to gather information - or not - will be determined by what the majority of the homeowners want.

Please note that the speed limit on our roads is 25 mph (and that is for all 24 hours of the day and stop signs mean “stop”). We have many miles of roads, most of which are curvy, with walkers/joggers and children using them in addition to the vehicular traffic. Please be aware of the danger of this situation, and what the devastating consequences of NOT obeying traffic laws could be. With this in mind, please understand these laws will continue to be enforced by security not with the goal of beating you out of your hard-earned money but to provide a safe environment for all. Remind your guest and delivery people to observe these laws as well. I’m just asking for everyone to make it their own personal goal to help security to keep our roadways safe for all of you and your neighbors.

Another security concern is at the front gate with regards to property owners not calling in their guests, contractors, or delivery persons (think pizza). I have instructed security that if a visitor is not called in they are to have that visitor pull over to the security parking area and wait until the gate
security person can make contact with the resident to confirm that visitor is expected. This is necessary to eliminate a long line of property owners waiting to get home. However, it may mean that your guests will be late or your pizza may be cold by the time it gets to you. Please assist us in providing good service to you by calling in to the gate anyone you may be expecting.

Bellsouth (AT&T) will be in here next month installing the final phase of fiber optic cable from Sunnybrook Road to the West Marina on West Lakeshore Drive. Thank you for your patience while they are in here.

And as always, if you have any questions or concerns, please give me a call at the office.
