It is hard to believe that September is already here. I hope all will have a safe holiday weekend this Labor Day.
August was another busy month. Road project work started August 2nd and is making a huge difference to our community. In addition, our perimeter fence project from Southgate to the interstate has been completed.
I have two other very important items of which everyone needs to be informed. First, in March of this year, Governor Haley Barbour created a new public service entity called the Utility Authority (UA). The UA was formed because of problems occurring with water and sewage in Pearl River, Hancock, Harrison, George, Jackson, and Stone counties due to Hurricane Katrina. The UA is creating a plan where water, if needed, could be shared-purchased by associations. They are also working on a plan, with highest priority to build a wastewater treatment plant and install sewer interceptor lines in our area (Picayune in the surrounding Pearl River County). We will not have a choice whether the sewer process happens here in HAWL. The UA can and will mandate that we hook up to their
interceptor lines. They have federal monies available that would allow them to fund some projects, and allow us to have sewer installed in HAWL with options for payment by property owners. This could begin within the next year. We do not have all the answers yet, but a study on the cost and planning will have to be done. We have asked the UA to come and talk to the residents of HAWL when more information is available and tell everyone exactly what, how, and when this is going to take place. We know some in the community are not happy about this news, but we knew it was only a matter of time before this would come about. We will keep everyone posted on the progress of the UA. As soon as they have more information, we will set up a meeting for all property owners. Also for more information about this, you can go to the website at www.msgulfregionplan.org.
The next item of extreme interest has been the development of the land in front of our entrance gate. HAWL only owns the land where the Hwy. 11 walls are built. The property is being developed by Jardin Development and the name of the development is “Beau Jardin”, which means “beautiful garden” in French. Beau Jardin is a residential/commercial village. Our Board of Directors and Garden Club are working with the development owners in creating a new entrance wall for both HIDE-A-WAY LAKE and Beau Jardin in keeping our image from Hwy. 11 attractive as well. This development is planned to be upscale homes and condos with restrictive covenants and will have a commercial village appropriate for that type of upscale development. We have voiced our concerns about traffic. The developer and county have agreed to work together to make traffic in this area as minimal as possible.
These are just some of the many things going on in our community. If you have any questions or concern, please give me a call at the office.
