Subject: Update Regarding the Community Stable and Barn
We wanted to share an important, difficult decision regarding the Hide-A-Way Lake stable and barn amenity. After much deliberation, the Board of Directors has voted to permanently close the facility, effective November 1, 2027.
As your neighbors and board members, our top priority is always keeping our community safe, managing our shared resources wisely, and protecting Hide-A-Way Lake from unnecessary liability. While we know the stables have been a part of our community’s history, several factors have brought us to a point where maintaining it is no longer sustainable:
• Safety Concerns and Structural Condition: Over time, the barn structure has physically aged and deteriorated significantly. It is reaching a point of decay that major renovations would have to be undertaken to ensure safety for the animals, owners, and visitors.
• Ongoing Operational Challenges: Managing the stable has become increasingly difficult due to persistent civil disputes between users throughout 2026. These interpersonal conflicts have disrupted the smooth operation of the facility and created additional legal and management liabilities for our association.
• Low Community Utilization: Interest and stall rental has dropped significantly. Currently, only three property owners are utilizing the amenity which is a fraction of our community.
• Balancing Our Shared Budget: Bringing the barn up to standard would require large financial investment. Because this facility is utilized by so few residents, spending a large portion of our neighborhood’s funds to rebuild would take from other community needs. Under our by-laws we must ensure our community funds are spent in a way that benefits the neighborhood as a whole.
• For Our Current Stall Owners: We truly understand that this news is personal and disruptive for the few families currently keeping their horses at the barn. We have ensured you ample time to find a new safe home for your horses by setting a date of closure over a year away.
• Additionally: Once the Board of Directors has worked through the closure of this amenity at the end of 2027, we are looking into our community for suggestions of how this property might be used in the future.
